A Heart of Gratitude

“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

As Thanksgiving approaches, our minds naturally turn to the blessings God has given us — family, health, provision, and the countless ways He has shown His goodness throughout the year. But Scripture calls us to something deeper than simply counting our blessings. Paul writes, “In everything give thanks.” Notice — not for everything, but in everything.

True gratitude doesn’t depend on our circumstances. It flows from confidence in God’s unchanging character. When life is good, we thank Him for His blessings. When life is hard, we thank Him for His presence. Gratitude turns our eyes from what we lack to the One who is enough.

Thanksgiving reminds us that every good gift comes from our Father above (James 1:17). It is a call to pause, reflect, and remember that we are not self-made — we are God-made and grace-sustained. Each day we breathe His air, walk in His mercy, and rest in His promises.

As followers of Christ, gratitude is not just an annual holiday; it’s a daily way of life. It shapes our prayers, strengthens our faith, and softens our hearts toward others. When we live with thankful hearts, we reflect the joy and peace of Christ in a world that desperately needs both.

So as you gather around the table this Thanksgiving, take time to thank God not only for what He’s given but for who He is — faithful, good, and unfailing in love. Let gratitude rise above the noise of life and remind you that, no matter what this season holds, you have every reason to give thanks.
